hertaled is the ecological alternative to lead, with all the benefits of our EPDM quality. It is a lightweight material, supplied in rolls of six or twelve metres so that you can quickly install many metres and achieve a substantial saving in labour costs. hertaled is a composite of EPDM strips with expanded metal reinforcement. This expanded metal makes it possible to beat or bend it into virtually any shape.

hertaled is a unique alternative not only for lead, but for existing lead substitutes too. One of the most striking qualities of hertaled is its environmentally friendly composition. We have developed the material especially for that purpose.

A second striking asset is its flexibility. During the production process we integrate an aluminium expanded metal system in our EPDM membrane which results in a composite material of an EPDM slab with a pliable outer end, that is perfect for fitting to an inner cavity wall and it can be bent or formed into virtually any shape.

hertaled also features all of the – now familiar – qualities of our EPDM membrane. You can attach it to virtually any substrate, it has an exceptionally long life cycle, is very environmentally friendly, it is water and wind proof, stays flexible and does not leach out.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION (EPD)

NIBE Netherlands gives a clear overview of the environmental costs (EPD) of building materials that are most commonly used. NIBE classifies the Environment Costs pro building material, shown as "hidden environmental costs". Although it is a Dutch institution, good and accurate information is provided. There is always a first class product, this is the least environmentally damaging product of the overall assessment. The classification of all other products within the same group is related to this first class product.

Hertalan EPDM sheets have an Classification 1A, this is the highest achievable ranking.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE CO-EFFICIENT (EPC)

New buildings must meet certain requirements in the field of energy efficiency. This is expressed in the Energy Performance Coefficient (EPC). How lower the EPC, the more economical the building is. As an example the situation in The Netherlands: The EPC is becoming tougher, the target is a nearly zero coefficient for buildings at the end of 2020. At this moment the EPC for new homes is 0.6 or less. For new offices, schools, hospitals and other buildings the EPC is even lower.

HERTALAN EPDM strips can contribute to this objective. Compared to traditional DPC systems hertalan EPDM strips provides many advantages, especially in making a building 100% dampproof.
